Pathcare Laboratories, the only internationally accredited (ISO 15189) clinical medical laboratory in Nigeria, has emerged as the winner of the “Excellent Service Provider of the Year - 2014” at the just concluded Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Health in Nigeria Conference in Abuja recently. The recognition and award was based on PathCare’s leadership role in providing the power, the reach, the impact and increasing the healthcare practice in Nigeria through PPP initiatives in the health sector.

Speaking after receiving the award on behalf of PathCare Laboratories Nigeria, a Consultant Pathologist of PathCare, Dr. Tolulope Adewole, said “through our involvement in the PPP initiative, we have shown our unflinching commitment to raising the bar in the healthcare sector by providing an affirmation of our superior performance in the nationwide delivery of pathology services. It is humbling and quite gratifying to be recognized for our continued contribution in the health sector."

The PPPs in Health Nigeria 2014 was organized to provide a reinforcement and advocacy for more and improved PPP contracts in Healthcare. Mr. Emmanuel Abolo of the PPPs in Health Nigeria, reiterated that the objective of the award is to recognize Public-Private Partnerships, whose strategic roles are upgrading healthcare infrastructure in the health sector of the Nigerian economy, adding that nominations for the awards were based purely on a team of independent assessors.

PathCare Laboratories has successfully established relationships with hospitals, clinics, multi-national corporations and HMOs. The top rated pathology tests outfit also has a fully established Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), which was set up to address the need for improved access, quality, efficiency and accountability in the pathology service delivery.

With an estimated population of over 160million in Nigeria, healthcare becomes indeed a big challenge for government to bear alone. PPPs initiatives are essential to augment efforts of the government by easing the strain on public funding while providing qualitative healthcare delivery for all.  PathCare Laboratories has been active in providing this needed support to help build a lasting and sustainable healthcare system and infrastructure for the ever growing masses of Nigerian.

The 2014 PPP in Health Award came in three categories: Service Providers and Equipment Vendors, Financiers and Hospitals. General Electric (GE), PathCare and JNCI were among the winners in the Service providers and Equipment Vendors Category. Award winners for the Financiers Category included IFC and Fidelity bank while Lagos University Teaching Hospital(LUTH), Primus International and Garki Hospital were the winners in the participating Hospitals Category.

PathCare Laboratories started operations in Nigeria in 2004 and in 2006, within 18 months of operation, became the first internationally accredited (ISO 15189) clinical laboratory in the entire West African region, and has remained the only ISO 15189 accredited laboratory in Nigeria to date, a status it has retained and sustained after every yearly ISO audit.
